It’s been a week since the kidnapping of Graham McMynn the son of one of the local millionaires here in Vancouver. It’s like something from a movie here in the west. I hear kidnappings are far more common place in certain areas in Asia and Europe, but here? In Vancouver, Canada?

It was a clearly orchestrated affair, with Graham being kidnapped at gunpoint from his car when leaving his home with his girlfriend last week.

The police had requested that no details be released to the media which includes what Graham looks like, however since that time the McMynn family have released 2 pleas. One of which his father shows his son’s photo.

Some of the news sources have done their research into the background of the McMynn family’s business and have found that they’re defendants in an ongoing civil suit regarding their bus company. It is in regards to a tour bus crash that happened near Revelstoke in which a few Taiwanese people were killed.

Anyways the short version of what I’ve seen so far is this. There have been numerous things pointing towards how unhappy and difficult it is for certain people to come back and forth from Taiwan to deal with this case.

The other issue is how like I mentioned earlier, it is rare to see kidnappings like this in North America with the reasoning being we have effective law enforcement. It is common in other countries for wealthy families to be targetted. In those countries because their law enforcement isn’t as effective, the families sometimes have to go to other means to recover the kidnapped individual.

Well with the lack of details, there is only speculation. With these two points, I wonder if it’s someone who is disgruntled with the tour bus ordeal (and being from a country where kidnapping is far more predominant) decided on kidnapping Graham McMynn.

I can only hope that the kidnappers contact either the police or the McMynns. There hasn’t been any word since the kidnapping and that is essentially what is worrying Bob and Joanne McMynn, the kidnappers need to talk in order for anything to be able to be done.
